Jazz, Classical, composition, and online jamming
Outside of academics, my primary activity is music. For a decade I have played jazz and classical piano and I compose music. I pioneered online jamming while at my school and founded and directed the The OHS Jazz Band. I played in local jazz groups and performed at the 2017 and 2018 Twin Cities Jazz Festivals in St. Paul, MN. I currently play with the Stanford University Marching Band.
The OHS Jazz Band
I am the founder and former leader of The OHS Jazz Band at Stanford University Online High School. The band uses open-source experimental software to transmit uncompressed audio over the internet fast enough that latency is reduced below human perception, allowing musicians in geographically distant locations to play music synchronously over the internet as if they were in the same room.
Online Jamming
In order to play music over the internet, I use experimental software pioneered by Stanford professor Dr. Chris Chafe and the Stanford Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics.
Piano
I have played jazz and classical piano since 2009 and currently study with Gary Gratz. What I like about music is its combination of mathematical patterns and its ability to convey emotion (which makes me particularly interested in film music). To me, piano is a great way to approach both of these aspects, being a conceptually simple, yet self-contained instrument that works well on its own or with others.
Composition
I compose music for orchestra and big band, and compete in national music composition contests. I studied music composition with Adi Yeshaya, covering many genres of music from classical and jazz to film scoring and popular music.

Maple Grove Jazz Ensemble
From 2015 until the ensemble disbanded in 2018, I played piano in the Maple Grove Jazz Ensemble, a community big band under the direction of Paul Mazzacano. The ensemble played jazz, blues, and big band music and performed at private events and public concerts in the Twin Cities area.
Local Jazz Combos
Over the years I have been part of several local jazz combos. I have performed at The Twin Cities Jazz Festival in 2017 and 2018 and at other local venues.
